Yesterday we took the baby out for her first really long hike in Pinnacles National Monument. By our pre-baby standards, this wouldn't have been a big deal, but with an extra 15 pounds going uphill, it was a real workout! Pinnacles has some of the best geological formations to be seen in California, thus several Earthcaches reside there. Long live the Earthcache!!!

23 The Great Falls of the Passaic GCA2D3 3/27/2006 1:15:44 PM curious7 East Rutherford NJ Wow! This one was great! Again, I had to decide which of several requirements to post it under. I decided I could probably find another bridge easy enough and I do have another lined up for the 1846. I don't think I can throw a stone across the river but my husband thinks he can (LOL), and maybe he can, so, I decided the most fitting was the Geological Landmark. It's quite an impressive one and very historic too. I loved it! I'm so glad we did this one. If anyone is interested, it's touted as the largest waterfall by volume East of the Mississippi (after Niagra of course) AND considered by many to be the birthplace of American Industry. There's a real nice picture of a 19th Century Engraving of the falls and other pics at the cache page. Curious7

There's not a lot of geological landmarks in Florida that haven't been heavily altered by men. But these high bluffs on the Withlacoochee where it borders the Green Swamp are one that is original. The Florida trail follows the bluffs, everything else being swamp.
Had a great hike out to this one, took advantage of low water levels to ford the Withlacoochee and use an approach I don't think the cache owner had considered.
