Frequently Asked Questions For The Hermit Game...

If the answer to your question is not found on this page then CLICK HERE to contact us.

Here are a few of the questions that players have asked, there may be more and we are happy to answer all questions. You can also visit our forums where questions are asked and answered daily!

Can a player find more than 1 type cache requirement in a single day?

YES - you may find as many of the requirements as you like in a day, as long as it was on or after March 25, 2006 but you can only log one requirement every 24 hours. If it is one of the caches that you are allowed to revisit, the second visit must be on or after March 25, 2006.

Can you use the same cache for multiple requirements? I found a cache today by a body of water that was a bird refuge. Can I use it for both requirements?

NO - You can only use a particular cache one time. You will need to choose one or the other.

There is a CITO event coming up in my area. Can we count this for requirement 17? Or does it have to be a cache site?

Yes, you can count a CITO event.

When will the game end?

The game will continue indefinitely. Even when the free coins are gone players can still finish up to complete their treasure map.

What if I've already logged ALL the caches in my own area that would qualify?

Then we would suspect that others in your area my have the same problem as well, so perhaps you can all get together and place NEW caches for each other....since you can't log your own caches. (Please don't mention that the new caches are part of a game and be sure to follow all the guidelines.) (Or, Can you spell road trip?)

I've heard about the ghost of the Desert Hermit who is monitoring the game and deleting certain logs. Under what circumstances might our logs be deleted by them?

Good question. One thing is they like to check the cache on gc.com to make sure you have a valid cache log there. If your log is not there or is dated before March 25th you are in jeopardy of deletion. Or if the link doesn't go to the right cache page because of a bad gc number. You can edit your own logs to correct a gc number that has been entered incorrectly. Another cause for deletion is if you use the same cache more than once. Before anybody claims a free coin our crew will look at all 16 of their claimed caches to make sure they all have logs on gc.com in the correct date range. They may even check the actual log books in all the caches so beware and step lively so you stay out of trouble. We'd hate for you to think you're in line to get coin number one and then get booted down to number 26 because you have to go back out to redo one of the caches!

There was some cheating referenced in the last quest. What steps have been taken to ensure that the same type of cheating will not occur in this game?

We're looking forward to the Hermit Game and are hoping that folks have fun, enjoy the game, and respect the guidelines. We have no way to control the folks who want to cheat. It's our finding in over 4 years of doing games such as these that if players feel the need to cheat, no matter what kind of rules are in place, they will usually find a way to justify their actions. We wish this were not the case but unfortunately this is the way some folks are...

If it's obvious that someone has made an error we will contact them and ask them to look at their logs - most times it's an honest mistake - The games take an awful lot of time to prepare. Our biggest reward is in reading the positive comments that the majority of players have to say about the game and how it has added something special to their caching experience. To be honest, when we start getting emails about "the cheaters" it begins to take the enjoyment out of all the effort that went into setting up the game. The way we see it if a player is having fun then he or she is doing everything right. Don't let what others are doing detract from your fun. We will however review the logs of each of the 75 winners to make sure that they deserve to win a coin, that all of the requirements have been met under the guidelines, if we do find a problem, we will contact the player and if they didn't follow the rules, the next player in line would receive that coin.

I am unable to see the requirements for this game, yet some are asking questions about "can I count a bird sanctuary near a body of water" for two of the requirements. How are they able to see the requirements?

No players can see the requirements for the game YET. When we set up the FAQ page we actually used some of the questions from the last game to give folks an idea of some of the questions that came up in the Coin Quest game....do these examples refer to an actual requirements in the Hermit game? Hummm....guess we won't really know until the game starts....maybe it does, maybe it doesn't - We can assure you that EVERYONE is seeing the SAME information right now!! :o)
