Final standing

A question about the finishing standings.

How are the FINAL standings determined. If it is based on total time then someone could always start the game months later and finish ahead of you.

This is spelled out in the FAQ as follows:

This game like all of our games will continue indefinitey, to allow folks to play at their leisure. However, the player with the best score on Friday July 6th at high noon will be officially declared the winner of The Modern Day Outlaw game. If there happens to be a tie in the scores, then the player who started first will be declared the winner!

I don't like the clock ticking only when you're on the trail. Makes it harder for people who don't have ready internet access...

But worse! It really hurts, when say, the compressor goes out on your fridge just before you're supposed to throw your outlaw in jail!

Afraid I don't agree ... I like the clock ticking only when hunting. That way, I can time when I want to hunt and plan around life's events. It's nice being able to play this over the course of the month knowing I still have a shot at the top without having to give up my life to cache for 9 days straight and be logging at all times of the day and night. So far, its just the right combination of caching, puzzling, and strategy for me.

I don't understand your comment about ready internet access ... if the clock was ticking all the time you'd be at even more of a disadvantage since you couldn't plan your cache slots.

I agreed with lasagna about being able to plan you life around the game. Of course sometimes you mess up and you still end up with a bad log time. But that's part of the fun. :D

I also agree, I love this new format precisely because the clock is only ticking when you are pursuing an outlaw. It allows for the realities of life's schedules. I am out of town at the end of this week so during that time I won't be on a chase.

Yeah...but you know you are going to be out of town. There are some things you can't plan for. And since final standings will come down if you log over by a minute or not...

It just sucked that the fridge went out and it made me late to log. Not cool yo.

I like the clock only ticking when you are on the chase. Especially when an unexpected event (like the death of a family member) happens, you can put what is important first and then rejoin the game and really not loss any place in the standings. We were able to take three days to be with family and we are still in the thick of it. I think it is a great change. I also like knowing the time brackets for the outlaws and their locations. When you do your research you can get pretty good at picking vehicles. We missed our first one (but we were close only 2 hour penalty) but we have picked correctly the next 4 time. So now I can schedule my lock ups around my life and still stay competitive. This is great.

Is anyone else feeling as discouraged as I am over watching your standing sink on the leader board? I wasn't thrilled about my 80th place finish, but I knew that was my own fault. It's just depressing to log back in and realize I'm not even in the top 100 anymore.

Next game, can we go back to the earlier way of doing things. when the score you finished with was fixed in stone? :(

If you click on the "Finishers List" link you will see your 80th place finish. The "Outlaw Game Leader Board Sorted By High Score" is the one in which we are all falling from the top ;)

I certainly hope NOT! As Xquid said, if you want to see how quickly you made it to the finishing line, pull up the finishers list. If you want to see how well you played the game from a strategy standpoint, look at the finishers list.

I like this strategy aspect. It rewards those who take the time to research their locations and selections with better log time totals and lets those who are playing plan their log times so that they aren't having to log at crazy hours of the day and night despite whatever else they have going on in their lives.

Sure, if you want to perhaps have two "winners" (first to finish and best time), that's fine by me, but don't take away this strategy element. It made this game a whole lot more fun to play this time around.

I DEFINITELY agree with Lasagna. Very well stated!! This game was more fun to play simply because of these changes.

To each his/her own. This was definitely my least favorite of the games - I did a lot of research, but got smacked with penalties all over the place anyway. Plus the rules kept changing, which messed me up, too.

I don't mean that I don't appreciate all the work that went into the game - I applaud the creators! I hope there will be another game, and I'll play it, and buy the coin, like I did here. But I hope they don't keep some of the changes they made.

We'll jump on the bandwagon with Lasagna and friends. This type of quest allows you to schedule the game around the rest of life! It did require an insane amount of research time to do well, and I am frustrated over some vehicle penalties since I'm really not sure what more I could have learned about the locations short of actually visiting them.

But the Hermit's Quest standings came down to who could log their first cache quickest (generally by midnight pre-caching) and the Orient Express was luck of the suitcase draw (and we had only bad luck). Outlaws gives a caching family a chance to finally break into the top 50 and still participate in normal life events.

Someone posted in a different forum that this game incorporated nearly all the player suggestions from the last game, and I think that's true - the ability to control your game clock, the fast forwards, and the gradual revealing of some of the requirements are a few of those. Thanks to the sherrif and deputies for an excellent game!
