Tips On Using Your Pocket Decoder
Opening The Pocket Decoder
It takes a bit of practice to get the hang of using your Pocket Decoder. The lid is held closed by small magnets.
To open the lid please notice that the lid has a notch on the right side. Insert a fingernail into the notch and
lift up on the lid. We have found that it is easiest to use your left thumb to open the lid while holding the top
ring with your right hand.
The Center Nut
Loosen the center nut so that the center wheel spins freely but not so the center wheel wobbles excessively back
and forth. Ideally the center wheel should rotate easily and the letters should stay aligned when you set the
Pocket Decoder down.
Tightening The Feel For Power Users
Sometimes the nut will tighten up and lock up the center wheel when turning it in the clockwise position. To
prevent the nut from tightening so easily, you can remove the nut and place a small piece of aluminum foil
around the stud and then screw the nut back on. A piece of foil about 1/2 inch square should work fine. A small
piece of teflon tape would work well also. Another trick to improve the feel of the wheel and make the letters
stay aligned better is use small felt pads under the center wheel. The pads we use are the 3/8 inch self stick
pads made for small kitchen appliances or lamps available at most hardware stores. Remove the center wheel and
place 2 pads on the bottom part of the pocket decoder at the 3 o'clock and the 9 o'clock position. If you desire
you can also place pads at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock position.
